Taken

Taken (2008)
Watched the film Taken last night with my girlfriend. Judging it by the cover and the trailer I wasn’t excepting to enjoy it too much, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I don’t think I’m giving too much away when I say that the film deals with someone kidnapping Liam Nesson daughter and him going on a murderous rampage to get her back … heck it’s on the poster! ————————>

The first thing I noticed durring the opening credits is that it was written by Luc Besson, whom wrote and directed Leon, or The Professional as it’s called in America. Which happens to be one of my favorite movies from my teenage years. This immediately helped ease any reservations I had.

The film spends just enough time introducing all of the characters and letting you understand who they are, after which it goes into action mode for pretty much the rest of the time. The story is carried by Liam Neeson from that point on, and it works well. Especially because Neeson is pretty damn convincing as Bryan Mills a.k.a bad ass Jack Bauer style father on a mission.

This is soooo getting copped!

A Sopranos movie? No thanks!!!

Paulie Gualtieri

Word on the internets is that not one but two Sopranos films are going to be made. It leaves me wondering whatever happened to bowing out gracefully? Why must every semi-successful formula be beaten merciless into the ground?

Do we really need a Sopranos movie? Much less two of them?

Call me crazy, but the last couple of seasons were not spectacular. They started recycling themes from previous seasons. The central arch in Season 5 revolves around Tony having to kill his favorite cousin, who has recently been released from prison. This is more or less the central theme from the 2nd season where Tony is coming to grips with the fact that he needs to murder Big Pussy, who is like a brother to him. The big differences being that in the second season it was new and it worked because it had been building for two seasons. In the 5th season it wasn’t so original and it really didn’t work. All of sudden there is this new character who is supposed to be family and loved, but has never been mentioned before in a scene or flashback. All he really does is cause trouble for everyone and you really look forward to him getting killed, which I admit was done in style. However if you compare that to the build up in the Big Pussy arc, you can’t tell me that the show didn’t fall the fuck off.

So what dynamics are left to explore in this character? What loose ends are there to be tied, whether or not he died in the final episode? No thanks, I’m not that bored for entertainment.

Taking a stand

New Danger Mouse album

Producer Danger Mouse, one half of Gnarls Barkley, is battling his record label who is refusing to release his newest album. His counter attack strategy is to let people download it illegally from their favorite torrent site.

The Dark Night of the Soul will be released as a blank CD-R with a 100 plug page book of photographs, by David Lynch, that are inspired by the music. The CD will be labelled: “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.

Now that’s how you take a stand on issue!

My precioussssss!

May 15th, 2009

For the past 3 summers this card has been sent to my previous address, and somehow it always finds it’s way into my hands. The F12 card is to me, what the ring is to Gollum.

What a lovely Friday by the way!
