Can iTunes LP help the indie artist rise?

November 28th, 2009

iTunes 9

I saw that Apple has released the specifications for their iTunes LP format. For those that don’t know iTunes LP is Apple’s way of encouraging customers to purchase whole albums. Including extra material like artwork, music videos, and other bonuses with the music files. Basically they are trying to replicate the music purchasing experience most of us had when we were teenagers and creating something similar to a DVD or an enhanced CD.

I think this new iTunes feature is very interesting for a whole variety of reasons, but the biggest one is how accessible these things are becoming to independent artists. The entire backend of an iTunes LP is made up from standard web technologies, which makes it very easily produced and inexpensive. A good web designer/programmer should be able to adapt and quickly put together an iTunes LP for a musician or a band. Also since it’s based on standard and open web technologies it should be easy to adapt an iTunes LP to be used in other online distribution fronts, like Amazon.com, should they begin offering a similar service.

Christmas Wish List

November 27th, 2009

Christmas is around the corner and feeling the need to blog something I decided to make a Christmas wish list with all of the things that have my eye at the moment. Yes it’s very gadget-centric, but that’s just me…

  1. Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM lens
  2. Canon 70-200mm f2 IS USM lens

This bad boy is sitting proudly at the top of the list. It would compliment perfectly my 24-105mm lens and is without a doubt going to be the next camera lens I purchase.

FOX News Idiocracy

Can you spot what’s wrong with this graphic?

FOX News 2012 Presidential Poll

Let’s see 70 plus 63 plus 60 comes out to 193. One hundred and ninety three, ain’t that something?

The thing that really alarms me is I really believe that they are well aware that they aired a poll that is completely inaccurate and manipulated. It aired because the numbers look better and the average person probably won’t even notice.

While on the subject of DJ Premier

YouTube has a fantastic HD quality copy of Group Home’s Supa Star. It another fantastic 90’s Hip-Hop video. Low budget as all hell, shot on the streets of New York and in black & white. Can it get any better than that?

All praise due to YouTube’s music video catalog!

Forgotten Hip-Hop Jam: Shit Is Real

November 24th, 2009

The last couple of days I’ve been bumping Fat Joe’s “Jealous One Envy” album from ‘95 continuously. So I thought it only right to show Fat Joe some love on the blog and post this music video for “Shit Is Real,” which is produced by the one and only DJ Premier.
