1 step forward 50 backwards

February 16th, 2010

I read this on ArsTechnica earlier today:

Each year, at least a half-dozen states seem to introduce legislation intended to undermine science education standards by allowing or requiring nonscientific ideas to be taught alongside a standard biology curriculum. In recent years, these have taken the form of the so-called “academic freedom” bills, which allow teachers to bring in outside materials that undercut standard science textbooks. Many of these bills are now placing climate change beside evolution as a target for special criticism, and there are signs that climatology may become an independent target for state legislators.

What can you even say? I’m speechless.

Found this via Daring Fireball:

And here I was hoping that one day corporations and their CEO’s would be held legally liable for their actions.

NASA gives up on the Moon

February 2nd, 2010

I was a little disappointed to hear that Barrack Obama’s budget cuts are going to force NASA to cancel their Constellation program which aimed to try and return to the Moon by 2010. In my opinion space exploration and climate change are probably the two most important goals any nation can set, so I’m really disappointed in this news. They’ve been trying to spin it by claiming that NASA will work on other programs and look past the Moon (meaning Mars) however I think that’s just spin talk at it’s best. In my opinion any deep space exploration will need to begin from space and the best way to do that is establish a permanent presence on the Moon that can be used as a launching pad for future endeavors

FOX News Idiocracy

Can you spot what’s wrong with this graphic?

FOX News 2012 Presidential Poll

Let’s see 70 plus 63 plus 60 comes out to 193. One hundred and ninety three, ain’t that something?

The thing that really alarms me is I really believe that they are well aware that they aired a poll that is completely inaccurate and manipulated. It aired because the numbers look better and the average person probably won’t even notice.

So there’s water on the Moon

November 13th, 2009

Today, on this lovely Friday the 13th, NASA has come out and said there is a significant amount of water on the Moon. It’s already been a fairly interesting year for those interested in space and the stars, seems like every week more and more amazing pictures of the stars are being released.

Getting back to the whole water on the Moon thing. It’s a pretty significant find becase it would make the creation of permanent Moon colony that much easier. Water is the foudation of life and with that in place, everything else will be slightly less complicated. A Moon colony, considering where we’ve come technology wise, is something I don’t under why we haven’t pursued.

Behold A Pale Horse

One thing that’s been bugging me about this whole water on the Moon business. Is how it’s something that was predicted by UFO conspiracy theorist William Cooper. William Cooper was a US Naval Intelligence officer who wrote a book called “Behold A Pale Horse” where he discusses a wide variety of conspiracy theories and claims to have inside knowledge on a lot of things. It’s a book I’ve had for years, but never bothered to read until a couple of months ago. In the book William Cooper claimed there was water on the Moon and even a slight atmosphere. I don’t put much stock on the book or on William Cooper’s theories but still it’s a bit strange that just months after reading his book NASA announces having food water on the Moon.
