Cooking with Twitter

April 25th, 2009

TwitterI found an interesting article on the New York Times about a woman that’s using Twitter to post recipes. For those of you that don’t know Twitter is a micro-blog and you are limited to making short posts of no more than 140 characters.

The format poses a bit of a challenge and recipes are condensed down and compacted to the point where it could pass for some form of programming language on your first glance. Luckily there is a link to a glossary on her Twitter page to help you orient yourself with all the abbreviations.

Here is an example, this recipe was posted on the 19th of April:

Chevre-Pomegranate Portobellos: stem/oil 4shrooms; stuff w 8T chevre/s+p. Wrap w 4pce prosciutto (opt). 25m @375F/190C. Top w pomegranate.

Quite an interesting take on the Twitter experience. It seems most users are trying to use Twitter to generate traffic to their websites and blogs, so it’s cool to find someone doing something completely different. You can follow her at twitter.com/cookbook.
